DDM partners with NHS England on Hindu and Sikh community initiative

DDM Health is excited to announce the launch of a new, targeted outreach programme in partnership with NHS England to improve immunisation and screening rates within Hindu and Sikh communities across England.

The service aims to address health disparities and barriers to healthcare access by delivering culturally tailored outreach activities, focused on increasing awareness and uptake of vaccinations and health screenings in communities with historically low engagement.

This six-month programme will focus on engaging Hindu and Sikh communities in key regions, including London, the Midlands, and the South East.

By working closely with local temples and gurudwaras, DDM Health will organise community health events to provide vital information on the benefits of immunisations, screenings, and other preventive health measures.

These events will take place in areas identified for having lower-than-average vaccination and screening rates, particularly within communities experiencing social and economic deprivation.

Vaccination and screening are critical components of preventative healthcare, yet many communities, including Hindu and Sikh populations in deprived areas, face barriers to accessing these services. These barriers often include misconceptions about vaccines, mistrust in healthcare systems, and a lack of convenient, culturally relevant healthcare information.

This outreach programme is designed to address these barriers directly, helping to build trust and improve healthcare outcomes for these underserved groups.

“Understanding local health views is essential to creating effective health interventions,” said Arjun Panesar, founder of DDM Health.

“By working with community leaders and tailoring our approach to the specific cultural and linguistic needs of these communities, we hope to significantly increase the uptake of local health services, contributing to healthier communities.”

This initiative forms part of NHS England’s broader efforts to address health inequalities through targeted public health interventions, focusing on areas of high deprivation and low healthcare engagement.
